The writer/director of Pyaaz Ke Chhilke & One Coin Please, after getting accolades & 2014’s best director’s award for One Coin Please, is now seen creating waves on National TV as an actor. He plays the character of a Bengali man Bhattacharya in this serial Bawan Patte currently being aired on DD. 2 more of his plays are in pipeline. Birju Ka Chautha Grahak & Akbar-Decoded. Here is an exclusive interview with the director Shyam Bhimsaria.
Q: Shyamji how has 2014 been to you?
Shyam: Began with this serial shoot of Bawan Patte, then this movie Ramesh Sharma & Anil Mattoo’s under production Shuklaji Street with Aditya Panscholi (Just 1 scene, I suppose), Teleshopping Ad with Anoop Soni released, showcased some 6 shows of One Coin Please. Acted in some 6 videos shot for Comedy Club India, Joined hands with Vinit Kakar Productions & the best was… getting the best directors award for my play One Coin Please.
Q: How important is this award in terms of you & your groups growth?
Shyam: Very Very Important. Its an acknowledgement of your team’s hard work put in for it. You now know that your work is being critically examined & you have managed to pass the test.
Q: How many shows have you completed till now?
Shyam: This 15th March 2015 we will be doing our 21st show.
Q: Any big names attached with your play ONE COIN PLEASE??
Shyam: Vinit Kakar of RAHASYA & Star performer of [V]’s TLC plays a very important role here. Rest others are big in their own ways. Nobody is THE Amitabh Bachchan by birth. It takes time. Name big or small, I don’t know, but most of them are best of persons for sure. I love them all.
Q: Nearing 4 years of you shutting your courier business. How has economics been since then?
Shyam: Look, everything cannot be measured commercially. Agreed income is not there initially. Specially theatres. But the 1st hand response from the audience is so encouraging, it actually helps you grow 3 folds. We all invest our time, money & energies to do plays. Some get very good opportunities as well. But again its a long term plan. That way even a Doctor or an Engg also takes atleast 7 years to make it. So…. sort of prepared. But see God has been kind to me till now. Don’t you feel so?
Q: Of Course Shyamji. Considering the fact that you come from an absolutely non-cinema/theatre background, how difficult it was to adapt to the needs of the industry.
Shyam: Seriously it was not tough. Not that it was a bed of roses…but I was prepared. Family support added to my comforts in testing times. Yes hurdles were there but once crossed it gave a very good feeling of satisfaction.
Q: Future plans?
Shyam: 2 plays which we intend to launch in festivals before offering them to the JANTA… Then my movie TRITIYA. Completed the script. Looking for somebody to produce it. I trust in God. He will make it happen…. sooner or later.
Q: Acting in films??
Shyam: More than welcome… with open arms. Hope the industrywala are reading this.
Q: Any message for newcomers?
Shyam: Hard work, Patience & Perseverance pays, Say NO to mediocrity & very importantly love your family.
